“In a way that occurred before but is rare in the United States somebody came to power as a result of the illegitimate acts of a legitimate institution that had the right to put somebody in power. That is what the Supreme Court did in Bush versus Gore. It put somebody in power. The reason I emphasize that is because that is exactly what happened when Mussolini was put in by the king of Italy. The king of Italy had the right to put Mussolini in, though he had not won an election, and make him prime minister. That is what happened when Hindenburg put Hitler in. I am not suggesting for a moment that Bush is Hitler. I want to be clear on that, but it is a situation which is extremely unusual.”
–Guido Calabresi, a judge on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals (Manhatten)
So, it’s like this. Calabresi is not trying to say Bush is Hitler, but he is saying he’s sort of like Hitler and kind of like Mussolini. Now, if you take pictures of these guys and compare them, you’ll see that Bush really doesn’t look like either one of these guys. And, of course, he can’t be two other guys at once, plus himself. Obviously. It’s just a figure of speech to say someone IS someone else, kind of like saying ‘Clapton is God’. Well, anyway… and, of course, if you’re comparing recent pictures, you’ll notice that Hitler and Mussolini, are, well, dead. So, Bush is the one that’s alive. Well, you see, I guess what Calabresi is trying to say is – democracy good, fascism bad.
Of course, the problem is if Gore became President, we’d all be bored to death by now… And Tipper would be still slapping parental advisory warning stickers on CD’s.
